2007 National Campus Security Summit:
Practical Measures for Campus Security

About the Summit:

Actionable Steps for Campus Leadership - Today, the world is focused on the horrific events at the campus of Virginia Tech.  But university leaders are concerned that tomorrow, the focus could be on their campus.  Each time an event occurs, a call arises for change.  Every new outrage is termed “unexpected” and “unimaginable.” Yet, while those statements may be true, you must prepare for the unexpected.

The incident at Virginia Tech will be examined and litigated for years.  What has been learned from previous attacks on educational institutions?  Is the threat growing?  How can you answer the question:  Are our students and faculty safe?  Security experts and media figures offer instant analysis, but the most important questions remaining are these: How do we prevent a reprise of this tragedy and learn lessons that will last?

The probability of an attack on any one school is low, but it is the challenge of every decision maker to plan for the low probability, high impact event, even in the face of limited resources.

The University of Central Oklahoma and the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism will present a one day Campus Security Summit to address this multifaceted and complex issue.
