Amy Hamel
Project Manager, National Infrastructure Institute Center for Infrastructure Expertise

Amy Hamel is a project manager with the National Infrastructure Institute (NI2) Center for Infrastructure Expertise in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. At CIE, Mrs. Hamel manages the Safe & Secure Schools Project, writes grants, manages events and is assigned other special projects by the Director.

She began her career in public safety with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Office of the State Fire Marshal as a research analyst, responsible for the data collection, analysis, and dissemination of three state reporting systems: the Massachusetts Fire Incident Reporting System (MFIRS), the Massachusetts Burn Injury Reporting System (MBIRS), and the Property Insurance Loss Registry System (PILRS). She worked with the Fire Investigation Unit and assisted State Police with their investigations by doing insurance and fire incident background checks. While at the FMO, Mrs. Hamel was the instructor at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy for the MFIRS class and was a guest lecturer for the Donahue Institute of the University of Massachusetts. Mrs. Hamel wrote the annual report of the State Fire Marshal for fires and burn injuries and provided support to the public information officer with media relations and public education efforts. In 2000, she joined the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General in the Insurance and Unemployment Fraud Division as a paralegal and investigator. She was trained at the Reid School of Interviewing and Interrogation and assisted prosecutors in all phases of criminal investigations, grand jury proceedings, motion hearings and trials, including conducting investigations of suspects and witness interviews, legal research and writing. Mrs. Hamel also worked for several years in fundraising and development in private education on Campaign Andover and in healthcare for a local hospital's Cancer Management Center, gaining experience in marketing, event planning and public relations.

Mrs. Hamel is a graduate of Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire with a degree in Criminal Justice. She serves as an advisor on the District Crisis Response Team for the Haverhill, Massachusetts Public Schools and volunteers her time with the parent groups from the district.
