Steven Healy
Director of Public Safety, Princeton
University
Steven
Healy has been the Director of
Public Safety at Princeton
University since 2003, and is also
currently the president of the
International Association of Campus
Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA)
(www.iaclea.org).
He has served as a member of the
IACLEA Government Relations
Committee for the past 10 years and
is active with issues regarding the
Clery Act. Chief Healy testified
before the U.S. Senate Committee on
Homeland Security and Governmental
Affairs on the topic of "Security on
America's College Campuses" (April
2007). He also appeared before the
U.S. House of Representatives
Committee on Education and Labor on
the topic of "Best Practices for
Making College Campuses Safe" (May
15, 2007). Chief Healy was recently
appointed by the governor of New
Jersey to serve on the state's
Campus Security Task Force.
Prior to his position at Princeton
University, Steven was the Chief of
Police at Wellesley College in
Wellesley, MA. He also served as
Director of Operations at the
Department of Public Safety at
Syracuse University. During his
tenure at Wellesley College, Chief
Healy was the IACLEA North Atlantic
Regional Director and President of
the Massachusetts Association of
Campus Law Enforcement
Administrators.
Steven is a 1984 graduate of the
United States Air Force Academy. He
spent 10 years on active duty with
the United States Air Force as a
Security Police Officer, serving at
various bases around the world. From
1992 to 1995, he was the Operations
Officer for the 95th Security Police
Squadron at Edwards Air Force Base.
He was instrumental in the
implementation of Total Quality
Management (TQM) and under his
leadership the 95th Security Police
Squadron adopted the
Community-Oriented Policing
philosophy.
Chief Healy has helped develop many
strategic plans for a number of
local and national non-profit
agencies, and serves on the Board of
Directors for the Boys and Girls
Club of Trenton/Mercer County. He
also serves on the Department of
Education's Review Group for the
Higher Education Center for Alcohol,
Other Drug and Violence Prevention.
Chief Healy is part of the team of
nationally recognized experts that
are presenting the first ever
"comprehensive, collaborative" Clery
Act Training Programs around the
country. This effort is sponsored by
Security on Campus (www.securityoncampus.org)
and supported by grants from the
U.S. Departments of Justice and
Education.
Steven currently resides in
Princeton, NJ with his family.
