2008 National Campus Security Summit:
Practical Measures for Campus Security

About the Summit:

The second annual National Campus Security Summit continues the dialogue among campus administrators, law enforcement and security personnel, mental health providers, communications specialists, legal counsel, educators and student leaders in an effort to provide the safest and most secure campus environment possible while achieving a higher education institution's primary mission of caring for and educating students.

Attendees will learn how to better communicate, better prepare and better respond to the security challenges all campuses face from a prestigious slate of law enforcement, legal, mental health and administrative experts. The 2008 Summit will take an even closer look at the perceived causes of these incidents, including existing campus security vulnerabilities and environmental challenges facing students, faculty and other staff and therefore campus communities.

The Law Enforcement and Crisis Assessment Track is designed to promote a dialogue between campuses and local, state, and federal law enforcement agents in an effort to demonstrate the value of partnerships and preparation for potential events we all hope never occur. Planning and development for coordinated crisis communication, emergency response, and best practices in campus security are key foci.

The Behaviors, Prevention and Early Intervention Track will focus on the changing environmental and behavioral factors commonly affecting college campuses today. Key topics will include improving awareness and identification of potential risk; proper interventions with students, faculty, and staff in distress; and best practices for connecting students with state and campus resources.
