Steven Buck
Deputy Commissioner for Communication and Prevention Services, Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services


Steven Buck is deputy commissioner for communication and prevention services at the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

Previously, he served as executive director of National Alliance on Mental Illness of Oklahoma, a position he also held in the late 1990s. Prior to returning to Oklahoma in September 2006, Buck was director of state policy for NAMI National, headquartered in Arlington, Va., coordinating policy strategy, research, and advocacy related technical assistance for the 50 NAMI state organizations. 

Appointed as national director of state policy in May of 2005, Buck had previously served NAMI as director of state relations and as a regional director.  In regard to his current role, Buck has advocacy experience in multiple state legislatures and working with ODMHSAS prevention and communications staff on veterans’ and anti-stigma issues. 

He and his wife, Lisa, have four daughters. He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics.
